We are looking for artists that would like to create original art for zines!
This opportunity would mean that you will have published versions of your art, get a fair cut of the profit and get to network with other creators. The zine would be a quarterly publishing, meaning that there are several opportunities a year to be in one. Each zine would be shared between 13 creators, placed in brick and mortar shops and sold online. Each artist would have up to 8 pages, with a minimum of 2, meaning you can fill those pages however you’d like- comic format, graphic novel, creature field guide, digital illustrations etc. Writers: you could have a short story inside!
Our quarterly zine is called Creature Feature, whatever that means to you! Lil guys? Sure. That thing under your bed? Sure! Were-kittens? Yeah! Your local cryptid? Yeehaw! Your imagination would be the limit.
If this sounds like something you’d be interested in, fill out our application form. Have any questions? Email us at heath@discoratco.com.
[Image ID: A screenshot of a Facebook post from Weisenback Farm. The post is a photo of two 5 gallon jugs of distilled white vinegar; one is 4% acidity, one is 5% acidity. The caption reads: Just a little warning for all those who are canning pickles or anything using vinegar. This year you cannot just grab a plastic jar of vinegar or even pickling vinegar without checking the label. Safe pickling requires 5% acidity… for the first time we are seeing 4% acidity vinegar… on the shelves. That renders anything pickled in the 4% NOT shelf stable. I belong to several canning FB pages where everyone is warning… for the first time ever… to check those labels or you could be throwing out many jars of unsafe pickled vegetables. End ID]
The National Center for Home Food Preservation issued this letter on July 14, 2023 warning people
They recommend that anything you have canned in the past 24 hours using 4% vinegar be stored in the fridge, and anything that was canned more than 24 hours ago using 4% vinegar be discarded.
im just going to come right out and say it. i miss when we were all obsessed with neko atsume. i do. it was a simpler time
I don’t usually add to posts, but I just wanna say that the creators of Neko Atsume just put out a new game, Tori Note! (In the English app store, it’s Tori Note. It’s とりのおと in the Japanese store, if that’s what you prefer.) It’s very similar to Neko Atsume except birds come to visit and each one plays an instrument, so the BGM of the game is always being played by the birds currently hanging out with you.
It’s really fun and cute!
And of course, there’s always Tabikaeru, a game they made about a little frog whose lunches you pack so it can travel around Japan and send you travel photos. And then it brings home souvenirs for you! I loved it so much that I actually translated a lot of it!
The organelles of the cells have been translated into human anatomy, so the nucleus is the brain, the vacuole function as the lungs, and the mitochondria is the heart since it’s the… you already know, I don’t have to say it ;)
